E-receipt: here is why your data is not at risk

As of January 1, 2023, paper sales receipts will disappear from your stores. As part of the anti-waste law, this dematerialization of receipts means that data relating to purchases in stores will be available, by default, online. The goal here is to fight against the waste of paper, knowing that,  these tickets most often end up immediately in the trash. Good news for the environment, but is it the same for the personal data of buyers? Yes, rest assured, these are strictly under control !

Digital receipt: good news for retailers...

This change is an opportunity for many merchants: to keep or find a proof of their purchase, customers will have the possibility, by default, to use an online interface. According to Maxime Dellerie, Spaycial's CTO:

Beyond the dematerialization of the sales receipt which is going to grow thanks to this law, at Spaycial we wanted to add the same experience of simplicity for the user as the one we have set up on the loyalty programs. Indeed, thanks to our banking license linked to the PSD2 regulation (European Directive on Payment Services), we have developed a technology that allows the user to access his dematerialized receipts without even having to transmit any information during his checkout.

Nevertheless, this may seem risky as far as your personal data is concerned. Use of data by third parties, registration to newsletters or unwanted advertisements, etc. A supposed risk, but one that is no longer a risk in a context marked by strict laws: PSD2 and GDPR now strictly frame the use of digital data.

...without danger for customers, thanks to the law

Let us explain. Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the customer has control over the use of his personal data. He can consult the information concerning him on his online account, and ask for its deletion if he wishes. He can choose which merchant has access to this data, and the service providers are obliged to ask for his authorization to collect and use it. He can also ask, a posteriori, to delete the data collected.

In addition, thanks to its banking license, Spaycial is subject to strict and regular controls to ensure that the payment data handled is secure. Maxime Dellerie goes on:


"One of the main advantages with the P2 is that the user's bank authentication is done directly on the bank's interface, thus guaranteeing that the bank identifiers never pass through our system. Moreover, the user can modify or revoke access to his data at any time with his bank".

The dematerialized receipt is finally a godsend, both for the retailer and the customer.

The latter can always opt for a paper receipt, but if not, they can find all the details of their purchases on a dedicated digital space. This is very useful for the after-sales service : it is now easy to prove to your store the date and the amount of a purchase, for example, in order to activate the warranty, for an exchange or a refund!

Finally, note that the format of the receipt is regulated, whether it is online or on paper : it must be as precise as possible and contain all the legal information that identifies the merchant.
